While I'll watch just about any movie and find something to enjoy about it (although the comedy genre has really gone downhill in the last decade), I'll concede I have favorites. But those favorites go on and on--from Fried Green Tomatoes to Chocolat, The Power of One, American Beauty, Amelie, Water, Braveheart, Almost Famous, Garden State, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, My Sassy Girl, Stranger Than Fiction, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tommy Boy, The Motorcycle Diaries, Shrek, Crash, Hotel Rwanda, Iron Jawed Angels, Napoleon Dynamite, Bobby, V for Vendetta, and Dead Poet's Society. These are pretty much my top 25 . . . the 25 I got by perusing the Susie Gallery DVD collection. This, of course, doesn't count the good ones I've seen in theaters recently or just haven't bought yet or haven't seen at all.
These top five are supposed to be determined by the way I felt right after I watched them. Ironically, I tend to feel really good about the ones that have some sort of significant or tragic endings. After all, a good cry is quite cathartic, especially for someone who tends to suppress all forms of extreme emotion. Think about it . . . have you ever seen me really sad, or really excited, or really anything besides really mad? So, without further ado, here they are (in no particular [besides alphabetical] order) for now . . .
This matter is open for discussion and I'd definitely appreciate your recommendations.

I think Amelie would have to be in my top 5 too! I'd probably have to bump Iron Jawed Angels (and maybe Fried Green Tomatoes) up there though :-)
I will admit that I've never seen Stranger than Fiction or Water. Perhaps I shall have to do that soon.
Have you seen Dan in Real Life? I found that rather "touching"... And everyone who is anyone likes Juno ;-)
yes. i love Juno. definitely in top 26. might even bump one of the 25.
Susie,
I appreciate your response! I challenge any other bloggers in Abby's blogging circle to create their own top five list. You can tell alot about a person based on their top five.
I must say that I have only seen two out of your top five. (Stranger than Fiction and Shawshank Redemption) I think both of those are excellent choices.
Now I feel compelled to give you my top five.
Pulp Fiction
Gladiator
O Brother Where Art Thou
The Matrix
Billy Elliot
I look forward to any other movie recs you can send my way.

Shawshank Redemption is one of my all-time favorites too. Have you seen the newer version of The Count of Monte Cristo? IT has Jim Caviezel in the lead role...something about it has the same feel as the Shawshank Redemption...but not QUITE as awesome! Still, you might enjoy!
